This is a very valid point. Unfortunately we have become so anxious to be
politically correct and not appear to be offending anyone, we have begun
to deny our very heritage. For almost 500 years explorers have been coming
to the Americas under the banner of the cross. Some good and some not so
good. Please take a look at the early settlers of the East and West Coast
and you will see that the Cross was a central icon of their culture. If
we deny the use of the image of the cross as part of our cultural heritage
we deny our very history. Do we not use the cultural icons of other groups
with much of our indian symbolism? If we allow that, why not use the
symbols of all! Please examine the basic foundations of scouting and of our
nation. It is supposed to be based on tolerance! To disallow the cultural
and moral symbolism of the cross is classic intolerance!
