Scouts who don't achieve Eagle

I echo this sentiment, and go a little bit farther. I was once asked to
speak during my chartered partner's services for Scout Sunday. My take on it
went:

"I'd rather an entire troop of second class scouts, in whom I can repose
trust, and who are striving to abide by scouting ideals, than even one Eagle
Scout who I have to 'Watch.'"

Whether or not they return later, let's take credit for the impact we have
on their lives, even for conveying some measure of values to them as a
result of scouting participation.

Personally, I 'll take one boy who becomes a scouter for life over
a dozen Eagles who disappear at 18. I know that they seem to disappear and
may
resurface years later when their sons become scouts, but I guess I'm the
impatient type.
