Re: Males in GSUSA/Females in BSA

Hi,
I am new to this list and have been following this the past few days. I am
not sure where the information has come that males may not hold an 01 position
as leader, but this is simply untrue. I have been instructed by the Executive
Director of the council I belong to that Males may hold the position on leader
01 status. The only stipulation is that he must have a female CO-leader 01
and he must have an adult female with him when working with the girls. In
Girl Scouting at least two adults are always required for a troop meeting or
any other event. Check with you local Girl Scout Council on this.
It is stated in Safty Wise (A book written by GSUSA of standards for Girl
Scout leaders to follow) pg 39 Chapter on Girl Scout Program Standards --
Standard 13 "Each toop or group should have at least one adult leader and one
or more assistant leaders. Because the female role model is essential to
fulfilling the purpose of Girl Scouting, at least one member of the leadership
team must be an adult female." further down in the standard reads "In
addition, an active toop committee of registered adult members sould provide
ongoing support to the troop." This does not say that the male must hold an
assistant postion. I would check with the council in you area and offer your
services again. with this standard in mind
Hope this helps with some of the confusion
