Dad's Camping with Girl Scouts

This is responding only to that part of the
message noted above. I have nothing new to
offer on the insisting v. invited ASM debate.

But, if you have a daughter in a troop and you are not actively
involved with that GS troop, please consider doing so. I let a couple
of years get by me thinking GS was only for my daughter and my spouse.

Learned differently, went to training, and now I keep going back. Our
GS Council outdoor trainings are a blast, combining dads, grandpas,
moms and grandmas, and Sr. Scouts from all walks for a weekend of
learning at a time.

I was recently invited to work on GS camping services comm. and
attended my first council-wide camp. Although as part of the work
force I not camping directly with T 248, the troop my spouse co-leads
consisting of 8 wonderful 6th grade young ladies who are maniac
campers, I was able to spend time at their site on several occasions.
Had a blast that weekend
with T 248 and several other troops during visits and some meals!

Can't speak to any GS Council other than my own, Sooner Council in
Oklahoma, but poppa's like me are registering with GSUSA, our numbers
are growing and I have yet to have anyone suggest to me that as a
poppa (other than myself through initial ignorance) I should not be
involved with our girls when it's time to hit the woods.

Getting into GS has opened numerous new doors to me, not the least of
which is a few hundred new friends, ranging from 6 to 60+.
