FYI the accepted flag for Wales is Green and White horizontal halves
with a red dragon superimposed.

Note that until 1606 the flag of St:George was the flag. From 1606 to
1801, the flag of St:George was superimposed on the flag of St:Andrew
following the Union of England and Scotland under James I (of
England), VI (Of Scotland). This 'jacck' had no red stripes in the
whitle diagonal cross. In 1801 St:Patrick was added.

I found the information on the Crosses in the UK flag.It is composed of a
Red "+" on a white background which is the cross of St. George and
indicates England, a white "X" on a blue background which is the cross of
St. Andrew and represents Scotland and a Red "X" on a white background
representing Ireland. Wales is a principality and thus the Cross of St.
David (Yellow "+" on black) is not part of the flag.

As to whether the X of the Confedreate battle flag ties in with any of
this, I'm not sure.
