Mike,
I hate to be a "me, too," but I got into this after work. Pull out all
the stops, shout his praises from the mountain tops. TELL THE WHOLE
WORLD! He deserves it. The fact that he has maintained his membership
in the troop speaks volumes more than his less than sterling
attendance. Kids have a lot to do, especially an athelete/scholar. I
wouldn't worry about kids getting the idea that "if you just hang around
the edges, you will get rewards." I fight that idea for Eagle COH all
the time. "What have you done for me lately?" doesn't apply in
Scouting. What did he do as a youngster? How many fund-raisers? How
many campouts? YOu get the idea. Tell the kids that he did something
special and has earned this award, and tell the "Nay-sayers" to sitdown,
sit down, sitdown, you're rocking the boat.
