Re: Eagle Scout Questions

Hello Fellow Scouters:

Here are a few Eagle Scout questions to toss out for disussion:

1. Is it proper for an adult leader, who happens to be an Eagle Scout,
to
wear the Eagle medal to Eagle Court of Honor?

I couldn't help you on this one. If you can't get a clear answer off of
Scouts-L, ask on the the professionals in your council.

2. If the answer is YES....my Eagle medal is framed, along with the
certificate and my God & Country Award, hanging in my office. Would I be
able to get a new medal from our council office for such occasions?

I'm pretty sure you can get another Eagle medal, but you'll have to
present proof that you are an Eagle Scout.

3. Are there any local NESA (National Eagle Scout Assoc.) chapters out
there? It seems like NESA is an organization that sends you a magazine
every quarter, but that is about it. Does NESA ever function as a local
chapter in a town/city to help scouting at the district or troop level?

I've never heard of the NESA doing anything in my area, although, they
do give some pretty good college scholarships. It might just be worth it
for that.

4. Does President Clinton send out congratulatory letters to new Eagles?
What about Astronaut Jim Lovell (Apollo 13), Gerald Ford, or Ross Perot?

I think Clinton sends out one whether you ask him or not. :-) The
others probably will as well. You'll to get their address off one of the
lists ont he internet. I'm sure somebody will e-mail you with the
addresses to some of them.

5. Is Walter Cronkite really an Eagle Scout? Who are some of the other
famous Eagles?

Walter who? :-) Sorry, can't help you there.

6. Is there an address that one can write to requesting that a USA flag
be
flown over our nation's capital in honor of a new Eagle Scout?

This can be done (it can also be done on state capitals too). I'm not
sure how you go about it, but I'm sure somebody will help you with that
too.

7. Does the military still recognize Eagles with a higher pay grade
after
they finish
BCT (basic combat training, etc.)? Also, do they usually put them in
leadership positions during basic?

A friend of mine (former lodge chief) went into the Marine Reserves
after he got his Eagle. He started out a rank and a pay level above
everyone else.

8. Do any car insurance companies offer a discount to Eagles?

I have heard that Geiko offers this along with a few other companies,
however, mine doesn't.

9. After the Eagle Board of Review, how long does it take the BSA
national
Board of Review to take action on new Eagle applications?

You'd be amazed how often that thread comes up on here. Some come back
pretty quick, but I've heard of some taking 7-9 weeks. It also depends
on if everything is in the correct order.
