I can understand your frustration when boys fail to live up to expectations.
However, I vote on the side of sitting down with the scout in question and
finding out what is going on in his life. Does he understand what your
expectations are of him for the job? What are his expectations? They may be
very different. And each boy is very different. Face it, we are going to
have some good leaders and some bad ones. Just look around the office for
crying out loud. I would argue that it is our role as adult leaders to mentor
the boy leadership of our troops. How else can they learn what it means to be
a leader. This two strikes and your out probably would probably not make it
through arbitration if this policy was placed at work. I know that I for one
would not want to work there. Remember, we are not building widgets here, we
are teaching young men to be better citizens. Does this (adult written)
policy help in that cause?
