Camp Cake for B & G Banquet

Well, thanks to everyone on the list who responded with excellent tips, I
made my first camp cake for our Blue & Gold Banquet and got loads of
compliments. Here is what I did....I frosted a rectangular cake (gold of
course) with a stream of white frosting as a base. Then on both sides I
frosted chocolate frosting (dirt) with a thicker layer. I filled in the
stream with blue gel (water) on top of chocolate chips (rocks) randomly
placed in the stream. On one side of the stream I put green colored coconut
(grass) and placed brocolli (trees) around. On the other side of the stream
I made graham cracker pup tents with chocolate frosting mixed with green
food coloring to give me a great khaki color, that I spread on the tents.
The campfire was as such: mini white marshmallows as the fire ring, 3-4
candy corns for the fire with pretzel sticks in a teepee form over them,
tootsie roll logs placed around the campfire. Oh yah, under this side where
the tents were I sprinkled graham cracker crumbs for sand/dirt. A few more
trees (brocolli) were placed on this side. And finally, a footbridge layed
across the stream made from pretzel sticks.
Thank you so much for everyone's tips.
