Re: Couple of Questions and Crossover Ceremony

In regards to Mary Lee Foley's response to Bridging ( Our Term), I hope
it always works out that way for her but we don't find it always so. Our
troop has gotten a large number of boys lately after the fact (i. e.
after they have graduated and left the pack. Whereas our largest influx
was the end of the school year, now it is Fall and early Winter. These
boys come to troop meeting, find they like the program and want to join.
There's no pack to back reference to although most of them are still
registered. Do we turn them away because there's no place to crossover
from? Are we Boy Scouts? Yes so of course we accept them. As soon as we
have a completed application, we introduce them at that evening's
closing circle and present them with their troop Cap, Scarf, Uniform
Numeral, Anniversery Patch ( currently 60) and troop handbook. They are
immediately placed in a patrol and advised on proper uniforming for the
next meeting and invited to sign up for the next outing. The parents are
invited to the next Troop Committee meeting ( and we try to register
them also) and our adult training committee chair tries to figure out
which training class we can enroll them in. We also recognixe them at
the next court of honor. While we like to do the Bridging ceremony and
have several bridges available to highlight the activity, when it isn't
possible, we're still ready to welcome any boy into boy scouting. When
we bridge, the only uniform change is the Cap and the Scarf. Since most
of the bridgings in our area are outdoors, this works well. I only hope
you are too Mary Lee.
