A very sad week here in Columbia/Irmo. J. P. Blizzard of Pack 95 choked to
death on a hot dog last Sunday. J.P. is the son of Pat and Tim Batten of
Irmo SC. He was 9 years old. He was eating dinner when he choked.
Repeated attempts by family members, neighbors, and finally the EMTs, to
dislodge the hot dog failed. There will be a Memorial Campership Fund set
up in honor of J.P. and a tree will be planted at Camp Barstow in his
memory. He was buried in his uniform, and there were many Scouters, Scouts,
and Scouting friends present at his funeral last Wednesday. His parents
were very involved in Scouting.
Please keep the family, den mates and leaders, and friends of J.P.
in your prayers, as they try to deal with this tragedy. He will be sorely
missed.
