Re: Adding Prerequisites to MBs

While it is true that we should not add requirements to a merit badge I
can understand for safety reason why your council would like thte boys to
know how to swim before taking a boating merit badge. In canoeing they
have to swamp the canoe and I doubt that a boy who could not swim could
accomplish that task without needing some assistance to keep from
drowning. So while we should not and are not supposed to add
requirements to a merit badge in this case for safety reasons I can
understand that request.
The professionals at your council are wrong about being able to make it
harder not easier. That is not their perogative. These merit badges
were written by experts in each field and the requirements are not to be
changed at someone's whim. If someone believes they should be changes
then hey need to make it known that they wish to be involved at the next
re-writing of the merit badge.
