"The 13 Folds" - a comment

Jay Thal (jay.thal@tcs.WAP.ORG)

As I quickly scanned Chris's posting of Monday I saved it to print later, and
add to my flag ceremony folder.

However, upon reading it I would suggest that it be modified for general
audiences, as well as in Scouting situations. My concerns stem from our
experience in a multi-denominational Troop which draws from a broad spectrum
urban population.

At most convocations of Scouts the attempt is made to provide
non-denominational prayers, and other experiences while still demonstrating
reverence. I would submit that the eleventh and twelfth "fold" do not meet
that goal. They address the Jewish and Christian (focus Catholic) heritages.

We have had, among others, Muslims and Hindus in our Troop. In addition, this
Nation's (USA) population is changing so that within a short time the number of
persons adhering to the Muslim faith will be the second largest group.

Others might, also, object to the gender specific G-d refered to in the fourth
"fold".
