AOL and Attendance

I did meet with the pack that was having a problem with a leader not wanting
to award a boy his Arrow of Light based on poor attendance. I found out that
there were some pictures of this boy at pack meetings where the leader thought
he had not attended.

I requested the boy's book, achievement pins, recharter and any pictures be
brought to the meeting.

The boy will be getting his award. It was obvious that there was not *good*
communication between the leader and parent.

For the den leader to have two committee meetings about this and to request
a rep from council or district attend a meeting, indicates how strongly she
felt about this issue and her committment to ensure the boys in her unit
get a quality program.

For the committee to meet on this issue multiple times, reflects on how
strongly they feel about putting the boys first and bringing a quality
program.

*I* feel that their pack will be stronger because of this. Some ideas were
thrown out (not counter to the advancement policy) on how to reward the boys
that do show up for everything. The committee will be drafting some policies
and guidelines about other items that would not have come up had this issue
not been raised.

And I also know some items we will be including in our next Basic training
that are not in the syllabus :)
