No set schedule. We have elections anytime between 6 & 12 months--usually
about 10. When we get to 6 or 7 months I usually take the SPL aside and ask
him what he wants to do & when. We do all officers at the same time

It's up to him. He's the one that has to work with them. I may make a few
suggestions to the SPL but it's his call.

I'd say no, for several reasons;
1--The SPL needs to have an assistant to rely on--someone who doesn't
already have another job.
2--There has to be someone who can automatically step into the SPL
job--someone who's prepared to do so.
3--It's not fair to the Patrol who loses their PL--it could leave them at a
disadvantage.
4--There may be hard feelings on the part of the PL who isn't picked--he may
feel he could do a better job.

That being said, when our SPL & ASPL are both gone we do put a PL into that
spot--whichever PL is most experienced.
