David Delman asks about ways to keep scouting skills in tip-top shape.
The absolute best way (apart from having them use the skills in life
everyday, which for skills like first aid is not going to happen
(hopefully)) is to have the people whose skills are slipping
teach the skills to others. This improves retention incredibly (which
is why I can still tie a diamond hitch).

A little less effective, but perhaps easier to do for large numbers,
is to occasionally run contests/games in the troop that use the
skills. Let people know ahead of time which skills are going to be
used, and let pride and patrol spirit motivate people to brush up on
those things they've forgotton.

Skills that are never used will not generally be remembered long.
