Years ago, I remember when we got a new cubmaster who also happened to be
a radio announcer. First pack meeting, he started precisely at 7 p.m.,
even though only about a half dozen families were there. Next meeting he
started precisely at 7 p.m. with about half the pack there. By the third
meeting, only about a half dozen families arrived late. At the fourth
meeting, only the person who was supposed to open the building arrived
late (but we were already meeting since someone else also had the key). Boy
did the group howl when the facilities chair showed up!!!
It took several meetings, but eventually, people came to understand that
the time was firm. They'll do the same with deadlines if you stick with
it for a few times. Just be sure you aren't making the deadline too far
ahead of time and stick with it. If the SE has a problem with it, show
up at your council dinner (catered affair) without a reservation. Make sure
you bring lots of people!!
