Subject: Re: Unit Approval on Eagle Application

Jumping off our great buddy Joe A, I would like to start a =

new cyberspace virtual log chit chat and brainstorming
session.

<---a snip from Joe's note
<First, requirements can be signed off by the SM *OR BY ANYONE
<HE DEEMS APPROPRIATE*. In most troops that actually practice
<the patrol method and allow the boys to lead, this authority
<is usually granted to members of the PLC and to those youth
<who are instructors. Once one of these "approved" individuals
<sign off on a requirement, the SM must accept it for advancement.
<This doesn't mean that he can't work with the scout to improve
<a skill (especially since with a well-run program, these skills
<are practiced an a regular basis anyway). It does mean that
<he cannot retest for rank advancement.

Being a methodical man by hope, dream, education, and employment
I have been dreaming for some mechanical, or Wall Poster ideas,
or any ideas for different ways to accomplish "Skill UpKeep"
or Refreshment Education ((<My own term)). i.e. How to move
beyond what Joe has described into real internalization of
scouting skills.

Particularly I am looking for ideas on how to help any troop
with possibly less experience depth to have a way to potentially
keep each scouts' skills in tip top shape.

At first, and still after awhile, it is frustrating to see scouts =

no longer able to tie the simplest of hitches, know the simplest =

of first aid, menu planning, duty rosters, etc. Now I do like =

Hard Play and Hard Laughs like all the young guys yet I want
them to get and remember and be able to do something a smidgen
more while they are in or after they leave Hard Play and Laughs.

YiS, IMHO, and may we each attempt to live the SO,SL,SS,SM
