I have been following you discussions on delaying presentations of Cub
Awards until the Annual B&G banquet. Now here's my $.02...
Whenever a child does something good (or bad) they are immediately
rewarded (or punished). This is a learning process. Delayed rewards
does not reinforce good behavior. Basically, this is the same for
advancements whether they be for Cubs, Boy Scouts, Varsity, or
Explorers. When a boy or young man has accomplished the established
requirements for the rank they should and need to be recognized
immediately. This reinforces their commitment to the program. It gives
them the honor they earned when they earned it. And most importantly,
it motivates them to continue to produce positive results in other
things because they know someone is paying attention to them (something
all our youth need from adults).
Let's face it, how many of you would like your employer to give you the
requirements needed for promotion only to deny you the promotion when
you filled all those requirements until the end of the year or a year
later. It is the same for these boys.
