Dear List Members,
I apologize if this has been discussed before- I'm kind of new to the list.
I've been meaning to write for some time now on some items I found in my
dad's basement. My father was a Scoutmaster for something like 25 years and has
quite a collection of Scouting material. It wasn't until about 2 years ago that he
decided to allow two of his sons access to his sacred collection. My brother Pat and
I decided to follow in his footsteps as Scoutmasters. Upon going through many
different boxes, I found one filled hundreds of flyers, magazines and booklets. They
date from the mid 50s to about 1983. Some are titled "Boy Scout Program Quarterly",
'Boy Scout Helps", "The Troops First Six Months" and "Patrol and Troop Activities" to
name a few.
I've been using these materials and can't believe how much information they
have. My question is why aren't the Boy Scouts publishing them anymore? Is it
because we now have "Woods Wisdom"? I'll admit that "Woods Wisdom" is a very good
information source, however these materials seem much more complete, easy to use and
seem to have many more activities that the Scouts enjoy. They basically give a
complete meeting plan or campout geared around a certain theme. I'm curious if these
publications are on the web somewhere. If they aren't, I'd like to start putting
them there because I think they have a wonderful amount of very good information.
However, I'm also unsure about the legal ramifications. Would this be breaking some
kind of copyright law?
If any of you have any insight to any of my questions I would love to hear from you.
If you think that having these published on the web would help out your unit or you
know where they already are on the web please let me know. I think it would
take some time to put them on the net, however, if units and Scouts would benefit, I
think it would be well worth it... Thanks for your time and happy Scouting!

Some humor...
"Scouting" without the "outing" would just be "Sc":)
I'm in it for the plaques and recognition:)
Winter camping? No, you don't need insulation between you and the snow...
Just plan on waking up real early- say about 2:30 a.m.
