Republican Influence in BSA

I get a lot of mail, some more controversial than others. This one
has to do with BSA history, an interest of mine, so now I am
curious. If anyone can shed some light on it, I would
be appreciative.

Someone wrote to me pointing out that the last time we had Get out the
Vote as a National Good Turn was in 1960. He said he knew someone
who said that he quit being active after the Republican party got control
of the BSA after the 1960 elections. According to him, they blamed the
BSA for losing the election (very close in you recall). At that time it
was believed that get out the vote campaigns almost always favored the
Democratic party. His contact said that the Republicans
were making sure it never happened again.
