Follow Me Boys

Howdy Scouts-L Gang!
I felt compelled to remind the list that the movie "Follow Me Boys,"
starring Fred MacMurray, will be re-aired on the Disney Channel at 2:50
AM on January 10. I'm compelled because I missed taping it the first
time it was shown and I WILL NOT miss it this time! And neither will
you, provided you have access to the Disney Channel and have a
functioning VCR and know how to program your VCR to tape a movie that
early in the morning (counting me, that makes three of us!). I'm
posting this today because many Scouters get the Scouts-L list in digest
form (much less confusing, annoying, intrusive, etc.) and probably won't
read this until Jan. 9 sometime. If you don't read this until Jan. 10,
don't despair...Disney will be airing the movie again later in the
month. Check out their web site for the later date (don't remember when
it is because I have become obsessed with getting it right THIS time!).
There is a sad scarcity of Scouting movies or movies that contain
elements ressembling Scouting. There is a fairly recent movie, starring
the late River Phoenix, that takes place in a wilderness setting, where
the unit (troop) comes together and overcomes the bad guys. It is
fairly violent in content and not quite what I would select to show my
troop, but I liked it. Now, can any of you folks tell me the name of
this movie? (no, really. I don't remember the name! If someone
recognizes the film from my description, please tell me the name and
I'll rush down to the local Videos-B-Us and rent [spelled c-o-p-y] it.)
It would be a refreshing thing to see a company like Disney produce a
new Scout-like movie that isn't a comedy and isn't terribly violent.
Surely there are enough good stories out there related to Scouts,
Scouting adventures, or the history of Scouting, that some producer
willing to accept a challenge would be willing to put on film. (Yo!
Speilberg! Are you listening?) If a modern movie were made that showed
the positives of Scouting, I'd bet membership would dramatically
increase nationwide after its debut.
Well, gotta get this in the email! (Hey, Jon! I realize the list is
limited to 50 messages a day for the digest. I assume you are aware that
the WAGGGS-L digest comes out 3 times a day. Hint, hint!)
