Re: A Scout is Reverent - what that means

I would like to thank all those who posted in response to my original
message. I got about an equal number of returns on both sides of the
issue which I must admit surprised me a little. Basically those of you
who brought up the issue of the Scout Handbook's description of a Scout
is Reverent make an excellent point and I definitely didn't do enough
research at the start of my message. What all this leads me to is a
completely opinion based question, but one which this discussion has
sparked my interests toward.
My question seems obvious, but there can be no right or wrong answer.
Hence why it's an opinion. The question is: the BSA obviously is
concerned with each Scout believing in God in one way or another, whether
practicing a religion or not. Why is it so important that a Scout
profess a belief in God? Would it hurt the program if we had Atheists?
Do Athiests not need Scouting like the theist children of the Nation?
Any insite into these questions would be much appreciated.
