What is "duty to God"

Lets say you asked a potential scout if he believed in God and got this
response:
"I do not believe in an all powerful creator. I do not believe in an
after-life. I do believe that as a human being, I must respect and care for
my fellow humans. I must be reverent towards them and their beliefs as I
would expect them to respect mine. I must care for nature as we are
dependent on each other for our survival. I an responsible for gathering
knowledge and passing this into the next generation. I must try to make
this world a better place for all to live in, now and in the future. In
that way, my god is all of humanity, and I am their god."
How many of you would deny membership or advancement to this boy? I do
understand that there are some church affiliated units that require the
scouts to be part of their church, and those would certainly have a
legitmant right to direct this boy to another troop. I also know that some
would deny this boy admission. But why?
Now if he instead said:
"No! I do not believe in god, and you will never make me do so."
Would your response be different? Why or Why not?
