Re: Historical Cub Scout Songs

I got the neatest christmas present this year from my father. His old
Cubbooks. The Wolf Cubbook, the Bear Cubbook, and the Lion Cubbook printed
in 1943 by BSA. They are small 4x7x1/4", 100 pgs and thin to conserve
paper. Many of the program basics remain the same, duty to God, Country,
and self. Bear achievements are familiar and include flag etiquette, feats
of skill, strength, home, handicraft, scrapbook, rope and electives. Some
of the health items are humorous like bath with soap at least once a week,
a BM in the morning and sleep with the windows open.

There are stories about the Webelos tribe and the Big Peace in the Bear
book, and Akela and the Webelos in the Wolf book.

There are electives on music with instrument building. The one song in the
Wolf book is America (My Country 'Tis of Thee) with all four verses and
music. This makes sense being printed right after WWII. The Bear book
calls for the boy to sing the "Star-Spangled Banner".

I can post more details or sections of the books if there is interest.
