I am looking for some help from people who live near Chattanooga, TN and
Murray, KY or who have visited these places.
I am re-planning a trip for my Troop from Dayton, Ohio during Spring
Break which is the first week of April. We were going to take this trip
last year, but due to the Jamboree, many of our scouts could not afford
to go on this trip also. I am estimating the cost to be around $125,
and don't want to go any higher than that.
I am looking for suggestions or comments about the proposed itinerary
below, as well as ideas for other things that we could do. I also have
some specific questions about a few of the things we plan to do, and
they are after the itinerary.
Day 1: Lost Sea (Sweetwater, TN) overnight.
Day 2: Chattanooga Adventure Trek. This includes the Tennessee
Aquarium/IMAX and Rock City Gardens.
Day 3: Hike the Blue Beaver Trail in Chattanooga. Drive to Murray, KY.
Day 4 (this day might be skipped completely): Land Between the Lakes
Day 5 (4?): National Scout Museum, including Gateway Park
Day 6 (5?): Drive home.
Now for some questions...
1. Where to camp in Chattanooga? I know there is a campground that
looked pretty good called Raccoon Mountain. The only problem with this
is that it is outdoors, and this will be the only night we spend
outdoors. I would like to avoid bringing tents, so if anyone knows of
somewhere indoors we could stay on Day 2, that would be great!
2. The Blue Beaver Trail is 10.5 miles (and uphill). This may be too
much for some of the younger scouts. What other things (free) could we
do in Chattanooga for a morning and afternoon.
3. I don't have a lot of information right now about Land Between the
Lakes. What is there to do there? Could we make a day of it (with
little or no cost)?
4. Are there other cheap things we could do around Murray if Land
Between the Lakes is not a full day?
5. We need some place to take a 1 or 2 hour break on the drive home.
This would be somewhere around Louisville (we would be on I-24 (I think
that's what it is) and then I-65). What cheap things could we do there?
6. Any other comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!
