One of the Packs in our District has done something even simpler.
They took the drum out of an abandoned washer, and use it 'as is'. They
demonstrated it at a Roundtable. All you need to do is use the inside for
foil or Dutch Ovens, or set a grill top on top of it for regular barbecue.
The holes in the drum are already set for circulation, the enamel protects the
drum, and there are very few ashes left over for disposal.
Set it on the ground (protected, of course, to prevent 'unfriendly' fires), or
set it up on a rock(s).
You can see these just thrown away all over the place, if you are looking.
Total cost.......$0.00, no modificaitons needed.
Just my $0.02
