Links in Email Messages

Keith Tilley wondered how he could make a link to a web page "live" in his
messages to the list (and presumably elsewhere).

Many modern email packages will look for a "fully formed" URL and highlight
it and then make it possible to go directly to that address on a web
browser. This is totally dependent on the setup the reader has. The only
thing the author can do is provide the address in the correct form.

The answer to Keith's question is to add the http:// to the front of the
address.

For example he cited a woodbadge site. To have our email programs recognize
it, just type it like this: http://www.woodbadge.org If you put a < in
front of it, be sure to put a > on the other end.

Want to make an email address "live" in the same way? Use the Web/html
syntax like this:

mailto:dwgentry@polarconsult.com Note there can be no space between the
colon and the start of the address.

Want to get even fancier? Let's say you want someone to have a certain
Subject line in the message they start. Then use this syntax:

<mailto:dwgentry@polarconsult.com?Subject=Happy New Year> I had to put the
<> around this one in order to force the subject to have more than one word.

Perhaps more than you ever wanted to know.... <grin>
