If this Scout's troop is so very concerned about the source of his
camping gear, and the family really can't afford any other means
of acquiring said gear, then why doesn't his troop, district , or
council step forward with help.
There must be someone in his area that has used camping gear
and could supply the Scout with everything he needs.
This seems to be a case of making a mountain of a molehill.
