We have been doing very much what you are about to attempt with our Merit
Badge University for the past three years. You may wish to look at our
web page to see the forms we use for registration.

We do one each fall and each spring semester. Usually have about 250 to300
scouts per session with about 30 merit badges and seven adult or
adult/scout training classes.
There is a discussion group for merit badges universities and related
groups composed mostly of Alpha Phi Omega chapters who sponsor them
throughout the Nation:

Subject: Merit Badge University Information System
Hello, I'm a Brother from Kappa Chapter at Carnegie Mellon
University (Pittsburgh, PA). Our annual Merit Badge University is
coming up February 22 and March 8, and we are expecting over 330 scouts
to attend to work on over 25 different merit badges. Kappa Chapter
received the M.R. Disborough Service to Scouting National Award at the
1996 National Convention for service rendered by our Merit Badge
University.
This semester I am working on a software development project team to
design and implement an information system (e.g. a database) to help
manage an MBU-style service project. This is a project for an
information systems course at Carnegie Mellon. My team is currently
conducting research in order to determine the goals of our potential
users (e.g. Alpha Phi Omega volunteers) and the requirements of such a
management system.
We would like more input from Brothers and other volunteers beyond
Kappa Chapter and Carnegie Mellon. We are especially interested in
information on how other chapters run their MBU-style events, such as
the types of information and tasks involved that could be handled by a
computer (rather than on paper). Please e-mail me if you would like to
contribute to our research efforts.
We plan to make the final product (perhaps a database) publicly
available for use by other MBU volunteers and Scouting leaders, if
technically possible. Thanks for any help you can give us!
