Well Ron,

With our troop of 40+ boys, and as the retired Advancement Chair, I can
tell you how we do it. That is, after the Scoutmaster Conference, the *BOY*
(i.e., not Mom or Dad) asks the Advancement Chair for a Board of Review.
For the BOR they must be in full scout uniform. The Advancement Chair will
do it as soon as possible. Sometimes this is at the same meeting, during
the game or after the meeting. Sometimes it takes a week to schedule enough
adults. Sometimes we do it on camp outs and waive the uniform "thing."

I have a personal problem with the "we only do it on the xth ----day of the
month" school of thought. I do not think it is fair to the
boy....especially the younger ones. We do have boys anxious enough who will
call the Advancement Chair ahead of time and say, "All I need is the
Scoutmaster Conference for my next rank, if Mr. P [the SM] can do it at the
meeting can I have my BOR then?" When I was Chair, the answer was *ALWAYS*
yes.

Do remember the key for us is that *THE BOY* has to ask!

Good luck
