Here's a Webelos one to chew on

My #2 son is a second year Webelos. The Pack has announced that they will
cross over next May.
He is just about ready now. We had planned during the summer for him to
complete things by December or January. I even offered to provide a new
bridge instead of the ceremony they have traditionally provided and warned
them that he would be ready about this time to move on in advance.
What can they use to hold him back? That little "visit a Troop with your den"
phrase. We - father and son - are visiting Troops *now*. The den hasn't even
thought about it.
This kid saw us return from Jambo and started saving $5.00 a week. He set Boy
Scout goals for himself, including Eagle before 2001. He's got the time and
everything else done, and he's tired of the artsy-craftsy stuff the den
continues to do.
Anybody want to come up with a polite way I can convince them that its time
to let the kid go on his way? I've given up trying - even as the units ADC -
convincing them that a second year Webelos den's duty is to finish up and
move on, they want to mother and smother the kids. Commissioner, Cubmaster,
none are willing to realize they are holding on too long for some of these
kids.
