A NEW EAGLE

Last night, my family and I had the honor of joining a small group of
families and scouters in honoring Ryan McComas, a new Eagle Scout from
Troop 31 in the Buckskin Council.
Although the troop and family had originally planned a bigger celebration=
,
Ryan pushed for something small this weekend when his best friend was hom=
e
from college and could celebrate with him.
Ryan has been a member of my day camp staff for three years, and worked a=
t
Mountain Rifle District Day Camps since I first became involved in
scouting, 6 years ago.
He's a patient teacher on the ranges, working with Cubs learning BB guns =
or
archery. At times, he has risen to the occassion of leadership -- two
years ago he took over a den when the den leader fell and had to have 8
stitches in her leg and immobilize her knee. Although other parents were=
going to be assistants in the den each day, Ryan stepped in to give this
den of Wolves (fresh from Tiger Cubs!) the continuity they needed as well=
as the fun they wanted during their week at camp.
If you'd like to send Ryan greetings and congratulations, please send the=
m
to me. I'd like to put something together for him, as he is the first of=
my camp's junior staff to earn Eagle.
YIS,
Judy Polak
