Re: A Scout is Honest

Carl,

IMHO, I think that it was very wrong for the SM to have approached this
matter the way he did. It's always bad when an adult places more
emphasis on winning instead of "Doing Your Best" (something that he
seems to have forgotten about Cub Scouts - which should still apply to
Boy Scouts). In addition, matters could only have been made worse by
putting the SPL of his troop in the difficult position of judging his
own camp site (fairly or otherwise - somebody somewhere should have made
the rule that a member of the committee can't inspect his own site).

As sad as all this sounds, I wish that there was something that could be
done about it - unfortunately, I can't offer you a solution to the
problem other than this; if a SM places more emphasis on winning (and
can't be open minded enough to accept the criticism of how he handled
it), you'd be better off moving your son to a troop you feel more
confident in.

Just offering up an opinion.
