Scouts Save UK family at Niagara Fallls

Included is a section of a story which appeared on the front page of our
local news paper "Evening Chronicle" on Friday 26th September.

A North East family were a few yards from death when their stricken
cabin cruiser drifted close to the edge of one of the world`s biggest
waterfalls.
An amazing series of mishaps left them helplessly drifting towards the
180ft drop over the falls and certain death.
The engine on their brand new boat blew up as they reached a sign
telling them to go no further.
They threw out the anchor but, because it was a new boat, the ropes had
not been properly secured and the boat continued towards the deafening
cascade of water.
Next they frantically waved the distress flag but sightseers on the
shore thought they were waiving and waved back.
A strong current caught the boat and began to hurtle it like a piece of
driftwood towards the edge of the falls.
With just yards to go before the edge a group of American scouts saw
their plight and staged a daring rescue.
They managed to get their own boat close enough to the stranded cruiser
to throw them a rope and hold them until the coast guard arrived.
Apparently they were on a visit the power station when they saw them in
difficulties.
