Subject: JOTI/JOTA
Saw your post on ScoutsL re: Joti/jota.
As both a Scouter (too many positions to list) and a Ham Radio (Amateur
Radio) operator I thought I'd give you some ideas:
Contact your local Ham Radio Club....(Usually has the name Amateur Radio
in the name), If you can't find a local one, contact ARRL in Conn (toll
free # available) for a listing. ALot of these Hams Love to do
exhibitions and they like to help on JOTA. You can also call the Civil
Defense folks in your area for recommendations for Hams. A ham not only
will bring his rig
(radio) but he/she may also bring computers to hook up to Packet stations
(alot like email).
For JOTI: contact your local computer stores. Places like Microcenter,
CompUSA, etc. may just lend you computers for a day with the
understanding that you ADVERTISE for them. Some
large offices may have computers your could borrow, so network with all
your Troop people.
Colleges and schools may also lend you computers.
ISP's (especially the "little" guys) are usually only too happy to give
internet time in
exchange for advertising.
Please, let me know how you make out. JOTA is an event close to my heart!
N1UOW (in radio circles I'm known as "you old woman"! :-)
