I am wondering "IF" the SPL should talk directly with the ASM
in question? Tell him that some "scouts" have reported that at
times, he has seemed abusive and threatening etc. I would suggest
a talk first, rather than a letter. I have found from experience
that a letter, or going over a persons head can create even
more HEAT in a difficult situation. Sometimes, just making
a an adult aware that he is maybe being too HARSH with the
younger scouts? . . .
My own family tells me that I seem some what threatening at times,
when it is not really my intent. When a leader works with adults
all day, he may not have the seperate skill set that it takes
to deal at the proper level with scouts.
Make sure he is aware that there is a problem! Give him a
chance to repond and adjust. If the situation soed not show
a fast improvement, then go right to the scout master and then
back to the committee, Chartering Org and/or scout pros.
