Hi Jan, we do everything that Terry Henley does and he is right it works
great. He lives in one of my favorite towns of Stillwater too. "Go
Cowboys"!
One other thing I would add is I usually ask two parents to plan and
present the activity badges to the Webelos sothe guys work on two different
activities at one meeting. We never complete any badge in one meeting but
by breaking them up, the meetings never get boring.
We always plan a game, sometimes we get finished in time for and sometimes
we don't, but I found that if you finished your planned activities early,
you won't break any hearts if you start the game a little early.
Our Den performs at least two skits and a Flag Ceremony at every pack
meeting so we are practicing them a lot. By breaking up into two groups,
you can have each group practice a skit,talk about the Scout Law or work on
the Whittling Chit while the other group is working on a activity badge.
With that many boys, there will always be some chaos, you need to measure
when some is to much. I have a problem now with one parent on campouts that
has no, none, zero, nada patience when the guys go exploring, climbing or
wading in streams looking for tadpoles. She has a very hard time
understanding that I like to let the boys be boys when the time is
appropriate.
Learn your boundaries and let the boys know what they are and most of the
time, they will try to stay with in them.
The more fun it is for you and the parents, the more fun it is for the
Scouts.
