What's in a District News Letter

Hi Gang,

We are doing it. Six months ago I asked for some advice from ScoutL on
starting a District News Letter and District Web Page. Thanks to all your
advice, we are on our way. We have a committee for both and now the Web
Home page is on the net. There is not much on it yet but we have big plans
for it.

Anyway the problem now is what to put in the news letter. I can think of a
few things like, a three month calendar, want ads for help at different
activities but what else. I want any and all ideas so we can help give our
leaders the right information to make their job easier and more fun.

One other problem I am still working on is distribution. I want to mail the
news letters but we have enough leaders that the cost is over a $100 per
mailing. I know their is the Round Table but at most only about 50% of the
units are represented there (on a good day). We are thinking about sending
to the CM, SM, and CCs and hope they can make copies but I still worry that
it may not be enough. Another idea we are thinking about is distributing
several copies at the local grocery stores so anyone can pick one up and
see what the B.S.A. Eagle District is doing in their committee.

After going to a couple of District Committee meetings,I am convinced
information resources are really important. I believe most of our District
problems are communication or lack of it. Between the Council Paper, the
news letter and the Web Page, I want every leader to be informed of
District Scouting events and activities.

Thanks for all your help
