Sixer and Seconder Training

This past weekend the #209 Erin Woods Cubs had a very successful Sixer and
Seconder training camp for its pack. Leadership, Ceremonies, Roles of a
Sixer and Seconder, Games, Campfires and situtuational leadership skits were
all part of the agenda. As a consequence of this camp, the leaders of the
209 think that we are probably off to a pretty good start for the year (not
bad considering that registration is tomorrow!).
I have some questions about how other groups do Sixer and Seconder training.
While these questions are probably more geared to my fellow Canucks, eh, I
would be glad to hear from all quarters.
1. How many packs out their do an organized Sixer/Seconder training
program on a yearly basis? When do you typically do it? Who do you include
(all eligible children or only those with a shot at a position)?
2. I would be interested in collecting Sixer and Seconder training
material from all quarters. I have the package prepared by the Calgary
region but I would like a broader sampling. Does anyone out there have any
material they would not mind sharing with me? Please email me privately at
the address below. If sent in an electronic format, I'll try to compile and
make available to all interested (i.e.: please do not send me copy righted
material unless you have permission).
3. Word from the grapevine is that the Calgary Region material could
possibly be heading for the printer. Would you be willing to pay for a
pre-packaged (but undoubtedly flexible) Sixer and Seconder training manual?
Should there be national (or provincial) standards in this regard?
Responses to this query will be sent to the person putting the material
together.
Thank you,
Frank Potter (Kaa),

PS. The suggestion in the last Leader magazine about running a one day
tender pad training camp has a lot of merit. I think we+ll try that one
this year too.
