Is Scouting really about the fast track to Eagle Scout?

I'm new to all this, but it seems like an awfully large amount of pressure
to put on the boys. My impression is that this is more the doing of the
adults than the boys.

What is a reasonable time frame to advance to Eagle for a new scout?
