A few months ago there was a string discussing differences and some of the
rough spots between volunteers, commissioners and pro's.

A few months ago our "new" DE took over a disasterous muck that developed
during the transition of our very experienced and personable DE moving
onward, a delayed replacement that resulted in a disappointed and
frustrated resignation a few months later and a commissioner who understood
"the organization" very well but moved before establishing a common
understanding with "the movement" resulting in a bitter polarization
between the northern and southern ends of a rural district (which had at
one time been two different districts because of the distance between the
inhabited regions).

Into this walked Bill. Volunteers were grateful to have someone,
expressed their welcome, and kept their concerns about his youthful
appearance to themselves. In a four month period Bill (to my knowledge) has
not been heard being critical of a situation. What we do hear is, "How can
I help you? Where do you need me?"
The District has a 6 month compromise starting and will work out
more solutions. Three days ago I got not so good news on a decission that
would impact the unit poorly. That night I left a message on his machine
explaining the dificult and asking if we could discuss options. Between 8
and 9 the next morning I had a message on my machine from Bill saying that
he had finished the calls and made arrangements to turn the situation into
something extreamly benefitial. I have since called Bill to thank him for
his rapid and direct action. It's been a year, but I feel like we're back
in gear.

Lots of the folks on this list may be shutting down their systems for a
couple of weeks and heading for Jamboree. I hope all of you have good
situations with your professional staff. When something works well, be
sure and thank them. There may be lots of other screw ups that never
surfaced because of their efforts. Withlacoochee District in Gulf Ridge
Council is looking forward to good things happening. Thanks Bill.
