Colorado Summer Camps

Calvin H. Gray (405geezer@IGG-TX.NET)

I spoke with the adult who attended Camp Alexander. He didn't remember
which council operates the camp but he does recommend the camp. So, I
guess you will need to contact the councils in Colorado to see which one
operates this camp. There is supposed to be another real nice camp in
Colorado but I can't remember the name. Here are the councils:

Denver Area Council Phone #303-455-5522
2901 W. 19th Ave.
Denver, CO 80204

Longs Peak Council Phone #970-330-6305
P.O. Box 1166
Greeley, CO 80632

Pikes Peak Council Phone 719-634-1584
525 E. Uintah St.
Colorado Springs, CO 80903

Western Colorado Council Phone 970-243-0346
839 Grand Ave.
Grand Junction, CO 81501

If a camp in New Mexico would be acceptable, I recommend Tres Ritos
which is operated by a Texas council. They also have a super
backpacking program for older Scouts (a mini-Philmont experience). The
only drawback to Tres Ritos is that all meals have to be cooked by the
troop in the camp site as they don't have a dining hall (unless one has
been built in the past three years). If you want to check this one out,
contact: South Plains Council Phone #806-747-2631
30 Briercroft Office Park
Lubbock, TX 79412

In any case, stay away from the San Isabel Scout Ranch (Rocky Mountain
Council). Since we started Troop 405 in 1986, we've attended 8
different camps and this one (in 1996) was the worst of the lot by far.
