Our troop, (461 Yukon PA.) has an active and successful venture
program. We have found that All scouts, First Class or higher need
venture activities. We do have age requirements for certain activities
such as overnight trail hiking (13), Rigorous climbing
(14) and some canoing. We currently have 12 crew activities in active
state in the troop.
Well actually we have 12 crews, varying in size from 3 to 18 in a 24 boy
troop. We form a crew when 2 or more scouts ask for one and are able to
obtain 2 adults leaders to sponsor the crew. A crew is considered
active once it has successfuly pulled off at least one event. The crew
selects its Chief at its first planning meeting, with a 0 term. (They
can ellect a new Chief at any time.)
