A Scoutmaster's Pause

Calvin H. Gray (405geezer@IGG-TX.NET)
Fri, 27 Jun 1997 15:20:46 -0400

Today is a typical summer day here in Central Texas. There are a few
clouds in the sky and the weather is hot and humid. Just another day in
June...a far cry from the destruction that took place exactly a month
ago when a F-5 tornado struck a sub-division near the small town of
Jarrell, Texas, on May 27.
On that day, which most of us in this area will never forget, 27
people lost their lives in less time than I'll spend writing this note.
Others lost their homes and all their possessions. Hopes and dreams
were destroyed. Life will never be the same for the citizens of
Jarrell...but I suspect it will be more precious.
After you read this note, pause for a moment and consider that this
life doesn't really last very long. We never know which day will be our
last on this Earth. Say a prayer for the Jarrell survivors. Try to
make your stay on this planet count for something. You CAN make a
difference in the life of a young person.

Yours in Scouting,

Calvin Gray
