A local business, a gift, a cash poor Troop, a raffle,

Hello Everyone,
Our Troop and committee, need some advice and guidance from the
Scouts-L group.
A local gas station, a BP affiliate, is have a Grand re-opening,
next week. They have been *very* helpful with the Troop over the
years, and want to help out again. Part of the re-opening celebration
includes a BP Indy race car Go-kart display. After the re-opening has
finished, the owners of the gas station wish to donate the Go-kart to
the Troop to use as a fund raiser.
Well here is our dilemma, we are a cash poor Troop and any type of
fund raiser could help us with doing more for/with the boys. One of
our committee members feels that a conservative estimate for a raffle
of some sort would be $700-1000. This is a "one-shot" opportunity for
us to have a "good" influx of money for the Troop. So, what is a Troop
to do?
According to our Council *any* type of a raffle is a NO-NO. Our
charter org is not all that involved with us, and we have a limited
number of dedicated adults. We are looking to anyone out there who
can help us with ideas on what to do !!!! The committee has a couple
of ideas:
1) a "Parents Group" run raffle
2) a Charter Group run raffle
3) an Auction
The problem with #1 is that the same "Parents" are "us" the
committee and Council sayeth: "nor can Scout leaders be used" :-(.
Our charter group is not that involved for #2, and we are not sure how
helpful/useful they can be to run/control a raffle. We are not sure
that we can pull off an auction in such a short term, or have enough
"other stuff" to draw in folks for bidding.
Can anyone in Scouts-L help us with ideas, solutions, other
problems to watch of, or even SWAG's ??
YiS
