'Special' Scout at Camp

GG Jenner (sdj@WHY.NET)
Tue, 10 Jun 1997 23:43:27 -0500

As promised here is the follow up report:

This young man did GREAT!
We had a little grumbling Sunday about having to carry his gear and the
troop gear down to campsite and setting up his tent. Otherwise we had
minor complaints daily about keeping his tent clean and not being able to
find this or that.
He willingly attended all his assigned "classes".
He was the FIRST to finish a MB (in Archery) from our troop.
At "troop campfire" Thursday night, he entertained all with a comedian routine.
He did what was asked of him as far as assigned camp chores.
He volunteered to do other items when we would ask for a volunteer.
He did take a shower every night with a buddy.

Since the SPL could not attend camp, the PL of the older boys was acting as
SPL. 'Special' and the other older scout were given the shared
responsibility of acting as ASPLs, and I believe that this gave them the
needed push for better behavior (placing them over the younger boys).

Anyway we all made it through camp with no one being sent home. We are all
very tired, sore, and hungry AND not ready for a troop campout this month!!
