You have a wonderful opprotunity to help the scouts you are working with
now
that you won't have later in life. Right now you aren't sombody's father
and you will find that it is easier for your scouts to talk to you about
some subjects then their own parents. Think about your own childhood. I
have been working with children for about 6 years, and with Christian
Service Brigade for about two. I started when I was 22, and I have no
children (first one is coming in June though). Over the years, I have had
many boys talk to me about things that they didn't want to talk to their
parents about, bad grades, girls, dumb things that they did, girls,
spiritual problems, and girls. I'm sure you get the idea. I also get the
pleasure of helping the boy talk to his parents.
One of the best things a young man can have is adults who will listen to
him, and who truely care about him. We need leaders like you James,
someone who isn't somebody's dad and can be like an older brother to the
scouts. You will be an asset to any troop. Don't let anybody tell you
otherwise.
