Re: A Webelos Question

Greg,

The Arrow of Light and crossing over to Boy Scouts are most
definitely TWO DIFFERENT things. They should not be a
combined ceremony (though they may both be done at the
same pack meeting) because not every boy that earns AOL
crosses over and not every boy that crosses over earns
the AOL. Just to avoid calling attention to this, some packs
will have the AOL ceremony at the beginning of the pack meeting
and the cross over at the end if they are held on the same night.

Now a question: Are you sure the 6 Webelos who will not cross
over until next February "have already completed ALL
requirements for AOL"? There's more to it than just earning 5
more activity badges. Have they been to a Boy Scout troop
meeting and gone on an outing with a Boy Scout troop?
Requirement #1 states "Be active in your Webelos den for at
least 6 months since completing the fourth grade (or for at
least 6 months since becoming 10 years old)" It sounds like these
boys are still in the 4th grade. But they may all be 10 1/2 already.
Requirement #6 says that AFTER completing requirements
1 through 5, visit a troop and talk to the Scoutmaster.

Please review the AOL requirements with the Webelos Den Leader.
