Steve Cobb asks:
<Can anyone help me with info on what procedures must be adhered to when
<dismissing a Scoutmaster?...The CR has looked for any info on what needs
<to be down to remove him. The DE says that the committee must vote on
it,
<but they can't find anything written down in any BSA books.
Steve:
The only book you must find is the one that says the Troop is owned by
the chartering organization. You will also find that the Chartering
Organization
must approve all leaders (look on the Adult Application). If a SM or
other
leader is not running the program as the chartering organization sees
fit,
they may remove him.
Ordinarily, I would suggest that the committee counsel the SM, explaining
their view on what is wrong, and setting specific standards that the SM
needs to meet. (Sounds like a Scoutmaster Conference with different
players,
doesn't it?) It seems like this has been done. The only other thing, I
would suggest is written documentation on the situation, copied to the
Scout Executive. This could be important if the situation gets more ugly.
It could take the form of a letter to the SM, explaining the above
problems and what the Committee wants to happen to avoid dismissal.
